Oral Cancer Screening

Early detection can make all the difference in the world

Oral cancer is easiest to miss during its early stages, and without quick detection and treatment, it can be extremely hard to treat and even survive. Which is why we perform an oral cancer screening at every routine checkup.

Tests to Find Oral Cancer

During the screening, your dentist performs a visual and physical exam of your face, neck, lips, inside of the nose and oral cavity looking for any abnormalities. Your dentist may also feel your head and cheeks around your jaw, under your chin and in your mouth to detect unusual masses or nodules.

If your dentist finds any areas of concern, they will be able to advise you on the best way to proceed which may mean a follow-up visit or a biopsy. The Wood City Dental team partners with local Oral Surgeons to assist with biopsies and further follow-ups with an Otolaryngologist or Oncologist for any next steps the patient may need.
